WILD ATLANTIC WAY: Roadtrip Day #2: Salthill, Connemara & Clifden
The next morning, nursing our heads slightly and stuffed with breakfast by my Nana, we packed our things (along with 6 Crunchies, 4 Twirls and a six pack of Walkers - supplied by my Nana who was concerned we'd get peckish) and set off on our way.
Our first stop was Salthill where we walked along the promenade, took some mandatory lifeguard hut photos and got the nicest hot chocolate in the cutest little Surf Café place on the beach.
(Outfit post here)
They had the sweetest little outdoor set up with these benches made from wooden crates with woolly blankets on hand in case the sea breeze got too intense. The perfect spot to just sit and relax and listen to the waves instead of our own thoughts for a while.
Re-finding our Zen amidst the hangover.
I couldn't help myself but to take photos of the set up, it was adorable and most definitely blog-worthy! I would really recommend paying a visit if you ever find yourselves in Galway or Salthill itself - only a couple of minutes from the city but the perfect place to relax and unwind by the sea. In case your Zen needs re-aligning - which ours definitely did that day - for more reasons than double vodka consequences!
We decided to keep driving along the Way, finding ourselves (much to our surprise - our sense of direction is questionable) in Connemara. It is literally miles and miles of nothing but landscape but there was something quite therapeutic about just driving and chatting in this place where nothing seemed disturbed or chaotic.
We eventually ended up in the beautiful town of Clifden - somewhere I always went as a child and I probably hadn't been back for 10 years! It was strange seeing all these familiar places that didn't seem to have changed at all over the past decade, but thinking about how much has really changed between now and then (deep, apologies). We strolled around for a while, got some food and then hit a tired slump so decided to make our way back home for yet another night out - this time in Limerick!
The entire trip was extremely therapeutic - a much needed break for both of us before launching into final year's craziness. I wish everyday to be back on Salthill beach without a care in the world. Final Year is very Zen-testing to say the least!
I hope you enjoyed these road trip posts - very photo heavy but that's my favourite part about seeing new places, - the weather made everything look so beautiful that I couldn't resist taking a million pictures!
Thank you for reading,
Siofra
