My Holiday Diary: Day 1 - No Make Up, Getting Lost and Soaking up the Sun

After two brief hours of sleep, myself, Mom, Dad and my two sisters hauled ourselves out of bed at 3am to begin our journey to the airport, and more importantly, to Portugal. I skipped make up that morning - SHOCK HORROR (I'm always wary about not wearing make up to the airport because I am convinced that one day I will run into Danny - from The Script - with no make up on, thus having to hide my face). Suitcases, hand luggage and make up bags in tow, we arrived at Dublin airport with just an hour to catch our flight (CRIPES). After plenty of funny looks from the security men due to my copious amounts of cosmetics and make up, and managing to not set off the beepy machine (YES! Feeling up situation = avoided). We eventually arrived at our gate, grabbed some croissants and coffee and joined the snaking queue of people to board the plane.

I am quite a nervous flyer but as we took our seats on the plane, a particularly sassy air steward began strutting down the plane aisle as though it were a runway at New York fashion week, cheekbones poised and smize in full effect. I must say it really helped the nervousness and fatigue of a 7am flight when we were all practically running on empty.

We arrived in Lisbon airport safe and sound, found our rental car and after getting lost and driving around in circles in the same village for approximately 45 minutes, we finally found some locals who helped us find where we were meant to be staying, unpacked, threw on bikinis and began to soak up the sun. Our Aunt Brona arrived later in the afternoon and after swapping bumpy airplane landing stories and doing a massive food shop in a nearby Lidl (life-SAVER) we got dressed and went for dinner in a beautiful, nearby fishing village. Upon arriving home from dinner, we all crashed into bed and were asleep within minutes. A wonderful sleep-full end to a tiring but great first day.
