My Holiday Diary: Day 4 - Lisbon, ZARA, Gelato & Homemade food

Tuesday started off early, and after a speedy breakfast of cornflakes, a banana and half a croissant (no time to finish a full one sadly), we all piled into the car and made our way to the train station to catch the train that goes right into the city of Lisbon. A prompt 37 minutes later we arrived at Lisbon station and ventured out onto the beautiful cobbled streets and the blistering heat of the city.

Kimono - Penneys/Primark
Crop top - Miss Selfridge
Shorts - River Island
Shoes - Converse
Hair - I woke up like this..

We had a bite to eat in the oldest café in Lisbon (Mom's idea) and split up before continuing, with Dad and my little sister (Meave) headed to Lisbon Zoo, while myself, Mom, Caoimhe and Brona decided to do some sightseeing and strolling around the beautiful city. There is something strangely relaxing about the atmosphere in Lisbon despite the size of the city, unlike any other city I have visited; no one seemed to be rushing anywhere. That, teamed with the adorable cobbled side streets and hundreds of interesting stores, nooks and crannies, as well as the beautiful decor of the city made it an extremely pleasant experience. I even managed to slip into the ZARA sale and came out with a couple of gorgeous items I had been eyeing up for months - no longer full price (RESULT)!

We saw an old house covered completely in amazingly decadent Portugese tiles - so detailed and beautiful to see in the middle of a city. So many of the buildings had tiled exteriors which made it such a wonderful place to just look around!

Another thing I loved about Lisbon (apart from the AMAZING gelato) was the fact that it is still very much an old town, with trams and old buildings and decor in their original state, still intact despite it being in the centre of modern day Europe. It was refreshing to see and experience as it's not often that old cities are preserved in their original state, their "natural beauty" if you will.

After a refreshing tonic of lemon, apple and mint juice (a much needed pit-stop) on the waterfront, we made our way back to the station and found a wilted Pops and little sister in a nearby pokey bar. We pretty much collapsed onto the train and I half-dozed off as we exchanged stories with Dad and Meave about our excursions.

Apart from the slight mishap of missing our stop and having to hop back on the train to go one stop back, we pretty much got back in one piece, albeit a little frazzled. Showers and hair de-frizzing promptly commenced, before sitting down to enjoy a homemade meal of pasta, pesto and salmon, along with deliciously crusty garlic bread and an animated chat about times gone by. All in all, a great day and evening.

Thanks for reading!
